eZ implements large-scale data migration and enhanced features for Car and Driver's website
eZ Systems North America has successfully migrated the caranddriver.com website to run on a platform based on eZ Publish. Car and Driver has been one of America's leading automotive magazines since 1955.
Working with Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. (HFMUS), the eZ team focused on implementing a new design, setting up new content organization, and implementing some enhanced, interactive features. For example, each car has an advanced image gallery:
There is also a detailed, highly customizable car configurator:
The data migration from an in-house CMS system to eZ Publish included 50,000 content objects of many different content types (or "classes").
Car and Driver's website currently serves over 100 million hits per month.
All page requests are first handled by Akamai. Akamai serves about 80% of all requests directly from its cache. The remaining requests hit a load balancer, which uses one of three eZ Publish installations to serve a page.
Behind the eZ Publish installations is a shared Network-attached storage (NAS), which holds all assets and cache files. Additionally, there is one master database server that can change database content, as well as multiple slave database servers that can only read content. The master database server manages the content replication for all of the database servers.
