Under Construction and Other Relics of the Information Superhighway
When the web was new and clueless optimists such as Zak drove the digital equivalent of mopeds and VW beetles on the mighty (and sparsely populated) information superhighways, one of the most common design elements for web pages was the Under Construction GIF.
Banners, icons and buttons of this nature would decorate pages for months or even years, while behind the scenes HTML was twiddled, GIFs were optimized by hand and CGI was puzzled over. Even in these enlightened days, a search on Google for "Under Construction" turns up over 40 million results. Granted, the first result is a web page advocating against "Under Construction" icons, but you get the idea.
However, "Under Construction" isn't such a bad thing - if construction is actually going on and if you can learn something from it.
In this spirit, we proudly put up an under construction blog post in preparation for walking you through the construction work that we are doing on this site. Over the coming weeks, we'll be turning a stock instance of eZ Publish Now - our easy to use web content management system - into a site that features information about eZ Publish and eZ Systems in North America, multiple blogs, profile pages for our team members, articles of local and technical interest and so on.
